Why dosent granite fizz?

It doesn't fizz when HCL is put on it because there is no or little calcium carbonate (calcite or aragonite). Limestone fizzes because it is mostly CaCO3. Dolomite, which is combination of Fe/MgCO3 and CaCO3 might fizz when hydrochloric acid is put on it if there is high enough concentration CaCO3 somewhere in that particular piece of dolomite. Sometimes it helps if you expose some fresh CaCO3 by scratching it with your fingernail and then dropping the HCl onto it.
