Setting up my amateur radio station?
I am having trouble setting up my station. I just ped my element 2 and 3 and earned my general cl license. I was wondering what is a good Performance DX antenna for ham radio that is in a reasonable price range to start with. I was thinking a multi-band dipole antenna would work good. I also don't get how feed lines work. I have an approximately 40 acre field to set it up in and I was wondering also what would be the proper way to run it a long way. I wanted to run it say somewhere between 275-525ft. Would that be reasonable or would the losses be to great. If it is reasonable what would be the best feed line to get (e.g. ladder line, coax). Is impedance per feed line length or just a constant of what type of feed line you get (e.g. 50 ohm or 75 ohm). Also to match SWR what instrument would you use? An antenna tuner? Thank you so much for anyone who answers my question. It is a great help so I can get my station set up. I am sorry to ask so many questions but I am really anxious to get started. Thanks again!
