Does anyone know what to use for trout in a lake?

I would try Berkley's power bait in the pink eggs . that is a pretty safe reliable bait , the second thing I would consider using is marshmallows or cheese . If all else fails try canned corn , that works too . Just be sure and use small trout hooks .
